Sesan River in Voen Sai District, Ratanakiri

Rocks and sandbars galore on the Sesan River in Voen Sai, just outside of Kompong Commune near the O-Pong River in the buffer zone of Virachey National Park. I took this pic at the end of January 2011.  My guide said that when he was a kid, he never saw the sandy bottom of the river (visible in the distance). However, since Vietnam constructed the gargantuan (and monstrous) Yali Falls Dam in Kontum Province upriver, now “sand everywhere!!!” Our boat bottomed out a few times on the way back to down. This was the end of 10 days of trekking.
