the creepy doorway to the spirit world

This place creeped my friend Richard out, who didn’t want to linger long. Whenever villagers make  important decisions, the spirits need to be consulted, and the blood of a chicken or pig is spilled at these gates. We wanted to trek to the spirit mountain, 4 days distant (one way) into the mountains and jungles beyond the village, so a chicken met its demise on account of our travel plans. Beyond this gate lay a series of ritual alters (photo a few posts back) where the bones of slaughtered animals dry in the sun while they are devoured by large hungry red ants. You’re well off the “banana pancake trail” out here in Tom-Phoun Ruen Toch Village, Ta Vang District, Ratanakiri, beside the Sesan River
